Taupenot-Merme Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Rouge 2011

Winemaker Romain and his sister Virginie run the Taupenot-Merme domaine from their base in Morey St. Denis. Since taking over from their father the wines have shown a more restrained aesthetic and this is a perfect example of the newer style. Blended from two premier cru parcels in Auxey-Duresses, it is now fully mature, displaying rich flavours of mushroom, red cherry, toast, bark and that mossy, mulchy, wet-dogs-in-autumn-woods flavour that is so elusive yet so desirable in a burgundy with bottle age. Serve it up with some roast duck legs and sauteed potatoes.
