The oldest evidence we have of grape-growing and wine-making leads us to modern day Georgia, on the coast on the Black Sea. This land, rich in symbolism and ritual, is where Jason sailed to bring back the Golden Fleece, the proverbial land of milk and honey. Even today, it boasts a treasure trove of riches, from inky, intense reds from the native saperavi grape to a wide range of characterful whites, as well as traditionally made orange or amber wines, with the tannin, structure and weight of red wine.
