New Zealand
One of the great success stories of wine outside Europe, New Zealand sauvignon blanc is now internationally famous. Pinot noir followed, in a luxuriously opulent style from Central Otago, with more perfumed versions from Marlborough and Martinborough, and traditional burgundian-style chardonnay too, which thrives in this cool climate. Syrah can also be excellent, and worth seeking out for fans of traditional Northern Rhone syrah such as Cote Rotie or Saint Joseph.
