Sesti Brunello di Montalcino 2018

The Brunellos of Giuseppe Maria Sesti are one of a kind, as is the man himself. An astronomer and musician from Venice, he acquired the property of Castello di Argiano in the 70s but didn't start making wine until the early 90s. The wines here are always traditional, exclusively sangiovese, matured for years in large old casks and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Artisanal to the end, they eschew the smooth polish of many Brunellos in favour of leather, tobacco, earth and grit. We love them and their deeply savoury character that excels with food at the table. Decant an hour ahead if you can.
