Domaine Heywang Klevener 3 Montagnes 2022 Alsace ORG
Heywang is one of the few places to discover the rare savagnin rose grape under the tiny appellation klevener of Heiligenstein. Also found occasionally in neighbouring Jura, it is a pink skinned mutation of the Savagnin grape, itself the parent of Gewurztraminer, but without the pong of roses! This dry, textured version comes from 45 year old vines in the terroir of Au, an ancient dry moor of flinty sandstone. Lemon, apricot blossom, kumquat and Asian pear aromas lead to a palate of mineral freshness, somewhere between Chablis and a mountain white from Savoie.
