Damilano Barolo Lecinquevigne 2013
The Damilano family have been in Barolo since 1890 and the current generation, led by Guido, Mario and Paolo Damilano, have been behind a huge increase in quality since taking over in the mid 1990s. This is a blend of five vineyard sites as the name suggests, but not just any old sites. With over half of Cannubi under the ownership of Damilano, plus Cerequio, Brunate, Liste and Raviole on their books, this is a blend of fruit from some of the very best vineyards in all of the Langhe. Raised in large old oak, and bursting with character and flavour, expect truffle, cured meats, nutmeg and dried strawberry fruit. It's a great introduction to the glories of Barolo at a remarkably good price for a wine that is now over a decade old. It will continue to develop and gain complexity over the next five years.
