Since its inception in 2008, Craig Hawkins' Testalonga has been at the forefront of the Swartland revolution. From organically farmed grapes on the granite soils of Paardeberg, this is thrilling stuff. The nose is spicy with a hint of curry and bay leaf that nods towards Jura, but the palate is full of explosive, rich fruit. Baked apple and apricot with a seam of tingling acidity that gives vital energy to the ripe fruit. Long, tantalising and many-faceted this is fascinating and delicious.
