In 1977, a then 51-year-old Henri de Saint Victor, together with his wife, Catherine, had a glass of wine whilst on holiday in Provence ³ and, falling head over heels, they visited the estate only to find a rather rustic setting with no running water and an exhausted proprietor. Catherine and Henri bought and built up the estate by hand Ñ literally laying the bricks Ñ and also taught themselves to tend vines and to make wine. Today, they are an internationally lauded estate; and, in a picturesque part of the world (decorated in lavender, olive and fig trees, and wild herbs) overlooking the Mediterranean Sea that is sadly being taken over by property developers, Ch‰teau de Pibarnon is firmly holding its ground. We are grateful for that as we cannot imagine a world without this bold yet fresh wine, full of black liquorice and fruits, spice, and savouriness.
