Vega Sicilia Unico 2012 Ribera del Duero

A true icon here, recognised as the equivalent of a first growth, this is the flagship wine of Ribera del Duero. The älvarez family only started making wine in the 1980s, but what they lacked in experience, they more than made up for in ambition. The Unico is set to age gracefully, with promise of developing mature aromas of leather and tobacco. But if you'd prefer to enjoy it now, expect super-fine tannins and a complex palate of strawberry, dark bramble fruit and herbal notes. Deserves nothing less than a rare chateaubriand.
