Adega do Moncao
Centred on the towns of Monção and Melgaço on the river Minho, Portugal's northern border with the Spanish province of Galicia, the vineyards of the region slope down from the mountains towards the Atlantic. Founded through the initiative of 25 growers in 1958, Adega de Monção now works with some 1600 growers cultivating 1200 hectares of vines. A focus on careful selection of grapes has gone together with an emphasis on modern winemaking techniques to set high standards for quality. Traditional Vinho Verde, both white, red and rosé, is their mainstay, made from indigenous grapes and characterized by lively acidity and a slight spritz.
