Moulin de Peyronin
Based in Pujols in Entre Deux Mers, just South of Castillon, Veronique and Franck Terral took over this pioneering organic estate in 2006. Previously run by a well-respected local cooper, Claude Jougla, the vineyard had been organic since 1975 and in 2019, under the care of the Terrals Moulin de Peyronin received biodynamic certification from Demeter. For Franck and Veronique this was an important step to revitalising the soils of this ideally situated estate whose vineyards cover 14ha of limestone-clay surrounding the property itself.
It should come as no surprise that the winemaking aims for minimal intervention, using only indigenous yeasts. The red is a blend of 20% Malbec, 50% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon raised in concrete. The white is 40% Semillon, 45% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Sauvignon Gris, while the Clairet is somewhere between light red and full-bodied rose. The tiny production of orange wine is a compelling blend of Sauvignons Blanc and Gris macerated 45 days and fermented on skins in steel tank. The wines are distinguished by their freshness, clarity and definition.
