La Ligière is an estate with 60 hectares of vineyards divided between Côtes-du-Rhône, Beaume de Venise, Vacqueyras, and a little Gigondas. The fruit went to the local co-operative until 2008 when Phillippe Bernard and his wife Elizabeth decided to start bottling their own wine. The vineyards comprise Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre of an average 50 years of age, and cultivation has always eschewed any chemical or synthetic treatments. La Ligière is certified organic and is moving steadily towards biodynamics. The harvest is manual, no yeasts are added, and the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
