The charming 19th century manor house of Chateau Cantenac sits in the midst of its vines on an eminence at the edge of the plateau West of St Emilion, just beyond Chateau Angelus. Under the careful ownership of the Roskam-Brunot family for four generations the vineyard now extends over 19ha and is planted to 75% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon with an average vine age of 35 years. Unusually for St Emilion, Boissenot consults and the wines show great finesse.
The family also have an exceptional estate in Lussac, Chateau Moulin de Grenet. Named for its fine 18th century windmill, the estate once belonged to the Cistercian abbey of Faize and sits high on the limestone plateau at 84 metres altitude, lending clarity and minerality to the wines.
