Forthcoming Tasting Eventsback to top
The scheduled dates for now to mid June 2008 are as follows:
Thursday 1st May - Wines of the Americas - £23.50
A stupendous tasting of some of America's finest with the powerful yet elegant wines of Ridge, Au Bon Climat's Califonian take on Burgundy and Drouhin's silky Oregon pinot. Not to mention the wines from Argentina's Gouguenheim that seriously outperform their modest prices. And anything else that takes our fancy. If you thought America was Blossom Hill and Gallo, prepare to be amazed.
Wednesday 7th May - 6 Week Introduction to Wine Course - £180
The popular Wine Course starts its next session tonight and runs for six consecutive weeks. The Course covers all aspects of winegrowing and winemaking and covers all the key grape varieties and regions. We have received a very positive response for the course and we would like everyone who has signed up to now get in touch to confirm their attendance.
Thursday 8th May – Lost Treasure: The Wines of Central and Eastern Europe – £20
We have been having a wonderful time sourcing wines for this tasting and are looking forward to presenting one of our most original line ups. It is hard to believe today that Georgia, on the Black Sea coast, is considered by some to be the cradle of wine. With new investment and a renewed ambition amongst growers and winemakers, we are now seeing great potential emerge for its local Saperavi and Rkatsiteli grapes. In Hungary too, a surge in quality has produced striking wines of great power and minerality from volcanic soils, not just from the legendary Tokaji region (which we will of course be tasting). Add in a sip of Greece and a twist of Slovenia and you have a glimpse of the new New World.
Thursday 15th May – The Wines of North-East Italy – £25
Just a few tickets left for this popular tasting of the wines of Friuli, Alto-Adige and the Veneto.
Thursday 22nd May – 10 Reasons to Drink Rose - £15.00
We hope Xavier will also be on hand to show his delightful Pinot Noir rose and lovely pink fizz, Flute Enchantee Rose, at this launch of the summer rose wines from around the globe. With not a drop of Mateus or Blush anywhere in sight, the tasting revolves around classic dry roses that are effortless to drink and share an enviable versatility when it comes to food.
Thursday 29th May – The Wines of the South – £18.00
Once the home of truly ghastly table wines, the South of France is now a hotbed of innovation and quality. With an ideal climate for producing wines, a wealth of local grapes, and patchwork of distinctive terroirs, the Languedoc and its neighbours have refined their offering of lusty, tasty wines at more than approachable prices. Members of the Winelovers club have already been taking advantage of some of our new wines from the South of France and this is the ideal opportunity to taste them.
Thursday 5th June – The Great Sherries of Andalusia - £25.00
Something is happening in the world of sherry. A new energy has replaced the complacency and declining sales, with new boutique bodegas, passionate interest from the world’s top chefs, and renewed growth in sales. This is epitomised by the recent arrival of two wines from La Bota, including our most expensive sherry yet, a Palo Cortado just shy of £60 per half! You have to taste it to believe it – it is an Yquem of the fortified world. This tasting explores the wines of a great spread of bodegas, including old favourites Lustau and Valdespino, and displays the full diversity of the style from crisp Finos, dry Olorosos, to decadent sweet P.X., as well as the ultra-rare Palo Cortado.
Thursday 12th June – Wines of Burgundy and Regional cheeses - £40.00
La Fromagerie in Marylebone is probably the best cheesemonger in the UK and is one of the only places to buy authentic regional cheeses that have been perfectly matured before sale. The palette of cheese they present is an almost inexhaustible treasure trove and forms the basis for this tasting of supreme Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from the wine world’s most valuable terroir.
Thursday 19th June - Red Wines for Summer - £22.00
By now we should (hopefully) be starting to feel the sun on our backs. It’s time to start thinking about weekend barbeques and supper in the garden, and appropriate wines of course. Expect a veritable bevy of lithe, lissom reds of elegance and class and possibly a blockbuster or two to take on charred bangers.
