Domaine du Vieux Collège,
Côte d'Or

You can't predict when you will uncover a jewel, especially from somewhere as over-heated as Burgundy, but we struck gold over lunch at a classic Lyonnais Bouchon with a remarkably full flavoured glass of Marsannay 2013 from Domaine du Vieux College. Eric Guyard is the seventh-generation vigneron of this estate with 25 hectares in Marsannay, Fixin and Gevrey-Chambertin.  The estate has been in organic conversion and from 2014 all the wines are certified. Eric sent us samples of three of the dozen or so cuvées they make and again we couldn't believe the concentration and depth of flavour.  We snapped them up!  The northern end of the Cote d'Or, Fixin and Marsannay, was once as famous as any part of the Cotes, and with wines like this it will be again.
